K-12 Engagement
One of the goals of the Ohio Chapter is to introduce the next generation of young minds to the profession of landscape architecture. The JEDI Committee has emphasized the importance of creating equity-centered curriculum that achieves the following:
1. Introduces students K-12 to the field of landscape architecture
2. Educates students on the importance of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion within the field of design
3. Engages students' creativity through tactile and sensory activities
Over the past few years. the JEDI Committee has led workshops for students in grades 3 through 8, introducing them to landscape design through the lens of diversity. Collaborating with the Center for Architecture and Design in Columbus, Ohio, the committee designed, implemented and tested many iterations of design curricula. Through many tests and iterations, the committee created a lesson plan for educators to use. Designing with Diversity: Intro to Landscape Architecture Lesson Plan is a recipient of the 2022 FLAA Curriculum Challenge.
