    MicroCosmos: Recent Works by Unknown Studio

    Learning objectives:

    1.Understand ways to design for coastal resilience without sacrificing public access in the public realm.

    2.See examples of projects that improve biodiversity and ecological services within a beautiful context.

    3.Learn about large-scale projects that work through incremental phasing for long-term impact.

     

    Speaker: Claire Agre, RLA, ASLA

    Claire Agre, Partner and Cofounder of Unknown Studio, brings humor, passion, and conceptual clarity to projects of all scales and types. Claire moved home to Baltimore after 20-years abroad and afield, north, east and south. Most recently and prior to founding Unknown Studio, Claire was Principal-in-Charge and Senior Landscape Architect at West 8 New York.

    With a background in painting and field ecology, Claire has led design and implementation for a diverse portfolio ofprojects, including the Master Plan and Hills Phase of Governors Island Park and Public Spaces, Miami Beach Soundscape Park, the 1000-acre, 40-year Master Plan for Longwood Gardens and its award-winning Main Fountain Garden Revitalization, Duke University Sculpture Park, and the winning entry for Changing Course—an interdisciplinary, international design competition seeking solutions for the disappearing Lower Mississippi Delta. Claire led the multidisciplinary design and engineering team responsible for Phase 1 of the Houston Botanic Garden, a collection garden founded on ideals of diversity and resilience, slated to open on Sims Bayou, Southeast Houston, in 2020.

    Claire holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Policy from Duke University. She is a licensed Landscape Architect in Maryland, North Carolina, Texas, New York and Pennsylvania. A clear and compelling speaker, she has lectured and taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, University of Toronto, University of Texas, University of Oregon, University of British Columbia and the Rhode Island School of Design

    10 Question Quiz and Meeting Invite will be sent out Tuesday, September 22nd once registration has closed. You will need to score a 7 out of 10 on the 10 Question Quiz in order to recieve LACES credit.
