    2020 Ohio Chapter ASLA Annual Meeting + EXPO

    Covid-19 Update

    The Ohio Chapter of the ASLA has been in contact with The Exchange. As of this moment (March, 19th, 2020), The 2020 OCASLA Annual Meeting +Expo event is not canceled and will go on as scheduled. We will continue to monitor the situation and deferr to the advice of The Ohio Department of Health should suggested health measures be put in place that warrants the cancelation or rescheduling of the event. The health, safety and welfare of all of you is our highest priority and we will work to ensure that is protected. We will provide updates as the situation evolves. Thank you for you patience, flexibility, and understanding during these uncertain times.

    Educational Session #1 

    SPEAKER | Kimberly Garza, ASLA, PLA, LEED AP

    Founder and Principal of Atlas Labs

    Kimberly is Founder and Principal of ATLAS Lab Inc, a landscape architecture, urban design and public art studio based in Sacramento, CA. Her work has been internationally recognized, published, and exhibited, including juried selection for the Market Street Prototyping Festival, International Garden Festival in Quebec, Canada and winning proposal for the Sacramento Capitol Mall design competition. She was named 40 Under 40 Urban Innovator by NextCity.org. and 40 Under 40 Honoree by the Sacramento Business Journal. Kimberly’s artistic works balance whimsy with architectural rigor, testing materials, technology and scale through the use of semi-permanent installations. In addition to her practice, she teaches advanced landscape architecture courses at the University of California, Davis and is past president of the ASLA CA Sierra Chapter.

     

     

    Educational Session #2

    SPEAKER | Claire Agre, ASLA, PLA

    Co-Founder and Principal of Unknown Studio

    Claire Agre, Partner and Cofounder, brings humor, passion, and conceptual clarity to projects of all scales and types. Claire moved home to Baltimore after 20-years abroad and afield, north, east and south. Most recently and prior to founding Unknown Studio, Claire was Principal-in-Charge and Senior Landscape Architect at West 8 New York. Claire holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Policy from Duke University. She is a licensed Landscape Architect in Maryland, North Carolina, Texas, New York and Pennsylvania. A clear and compelling speaker, she has lectured and taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, University of Toronto, University of Texas, University of Oregon, University of British Columbia and the Rhode Island School of Design.

    SPEAKER | Thomas Brown, Principal & Christopher Bongorno, Senior Associate 

    Nelson/Nygaard

    Tom has been with NelsonNygaard since 2004 and is a national leader in transit-oriented development, transportation demand management, parking, and emerging mobility. Years of engaging diverse, passionate, and thoughtful stakeholders in a wide variety of contexts and opportunity-environments enable Tom to provide a clear assessment of best-available options, the essential pros and cons of each, and a viable path forward in serving transportation, growth, and broader community goals. Tom worked out of NelsonNygaard’s New York City office for 12 years before moving home to Ohio in 2016. He now lives in Cleveland Heights.

    Chris has more than 12 years of professional planning experience and has been with NelsonNygaard for two years. He applies a detail-oriented and client-focused skill set to extensive work in the fields of transportation and community planning, mixed-use and institutional development, and place management. Since joining NelsonNygaard, he has worked on variety of projects in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Arkansas, Tennessee and Florida. Chris is a native of Cleveland and a graduate of the urban planning programs at University of Cincinnati and Cleveland State University. Prior to joining NelsonNygaard, he worked as Planning Director and Transportation Planning Manager for University Circle Inc. in Cleveland. Chris is dedicated to the communities in which he works and lives, serving multiple non-profit and civic roles in both Cleveland and Yellow Springs, Ohio.

    SPEAKER | Tony Murry, ASLA, PLA 

    Senior Associate at NBBJ Design

    Tony Murry is a senior leader in the urban environments practice at NBBJ Columbus, a global architecture and design firm. With expertise in landscape architecture, urban design and project management, he is passionate about creative placemaking and blending interior, exterior and public outdoor spaces. Tony partners with national and international clients across healthcare, civic, education and commercial sectors, such as Columbus Metropolitan Library, the Green Bay Packers, Ohio State University and Atrium Health. Most recently, his work on Nickel Plate Trail and the Seattle Opera Center won awards from ASLA’s Ohio chapter. Experienced in all phases of design and construction, Tony believes each project must speak to not just clients’ needs, but their values too, while uplifting and engaging surrounding communities.
