2018 OCASLA Professional + Student Awards | Call For Entries

Past awards juries have valued both large and small scale works that exhibit creativity while solving some of the world's most complex issues. This year's Award Recipients will receive publication in the 2018 Awards Booklet and the OCASLA website.The Awards Booklet will be available at the GALA 2018 which will be held in Cleveland, Ohio in the fall.

The OCASLA Awards Program features six juried categories:

  •          General Design | Constructed
  •          General Design | Not Constructed
  •          Residential
  •          Planning + Analysis
  •          Communications + Research
  •          Students (Must be currently enrolled or recent Spring 2018 graduate)

 

2018 AWARDS JURY:

The awards program is juried by a diverse group of professionals and local practitioners who will convene on Thursday, August 2nd at The Vue in Columbus, Ohio to review submittals and select the winners. The announcement of winners will be made at the 9th annual GALA 2018 in the fall.

All entries must be purchased and submitted online: There are TWO separate deadlines, you must first register with your entry fee to receive an entry number assignment in order to submit your project by the final deadline.

Project Image PDF (A multi-page PDF document containing a maximum of (15) pages of drawings and/or photographs shall be uploaded for juror review):

The PDF file shall be numbered sequentially using your assigned Entry Number. For example, if your assigned Entry Number is 100, your PDF pages should be labeled as 100.01 to 100.15. To insure proper presentation sequencing, your PDF file should be saved as your entry number, for example 100.pdf, and placed in a separate folder inside your Dropbox folder titled 'Project Title - Images' 

Only PDF files will be accepted, dimensions should be 3300 pixels x 2550 pixels, at 300 pixels per inch (8.5"x11"). Page captions should be properly labeled on the page to correlate with the page names and no more than 40 words per pageAny pages with more than 40 description words per page will result in disqualification, this does not include text on plan graphics or any other graphic text. (See templates available for download below.)

One (1) 36”x 36” PDF Display Graphic (Saved in high resolution 200 ppi (pixels per inch) format. In the event of a winning entry, the graphic will be printed and displayed at GALA 2017 and at the Center for Architecture and Design. The Display Graphic should be a way to explain the project to the public. The display should include a  'Project Identification Label', such as a firm logo with the project name and location, and may also include brief written statements. (Please save the  Display Graphic as follows: 'YourProjectName_Display.pdf')

 **Communications + Research Category Entrants Only- Unlike the other categories, submissions in the Communications & Research Category may include alternate items. If submitting a booklet or video, a copy of the booklet or video should be included with the entry submission. To the best extent possible (without editing or defacing the communications item) please conceal the identity of the author, publisher, etc., on the item.

The use of powerpoint presentations (unless they are part of the Communications + Research Category) will result in disqualification.

Entrants are responsible for clearing photographs with photographers for publication and reproduction by OCASLA. OCASLA will provide proper photography credit when using photos, but will not assume responsibility for any copyrights or photography fees.

2018 OCASLA 14TH ANNUAL GOLF OUTING

About the Golf Outing

The Annual Golf Outing has become a great philanthropic event and is attended by 60+ Landscape Architects from around the state of Ohio. This is an outstanding opportunity to network and socialize with members of the profession all while benefiting a great program!

We are proud to announce that all proceeds go to the Student Chapter of ASLA at the Knowlton School at The Ohio State University and the Graduate Landscape Architecture Program at the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at Kent State University. The Student Chapters use these valuable funds as a kickstart fundraising event for the upcoming school year. This year's fundraising goal is $2,500 and we need your help!

Not only will a round of golf be used to help reach this year's goal, but a number of sponsorship opportunities have been established as well to assist OCASLA in reaching our goal. Please see the various levels of sponsorship below.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Designer will support the projects of the Landscape Architect, complete independent projects and prepare designs in support of account managers/sales staff.  Duties include conducting field assessments, preparation of base maps, participate in meetings to facilitate & create solutions in-line with budgets and site challenges. Produce finished plans for presentation and construction drawings as needed. Assist with project coordination through completion.    

SKILLS AND EDUCATION:

Landscape Design Degree from an accredited university or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or experience with 2-5 years’ experience in landscape design or construction industry.

Proficient in the following programs: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, AutoCAD, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Bluebeam Revu.

Proficient in reading and analyzing plans and specification documents. Knowledge of landscape terminology, plant materials, construction materials & design coordination.

Advanced computer, math and interpersonal communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ROLES

Review designs with Landscape Architect & Production Staff to determine construction methods and generate cost estimates.

Conduct field analysis and prepare AutoCAD base maps to facilitate the design process.

Request quotations from material suppliers and trade subcontractors

Create effective designs for Account Managers as assigned.

Create and maintain databases with information for subcontractors and vendors including accurate material costs from suppliers.

Organize, review and log quotes in accordance with file management structure.

Participate in project review meetings with owner or owner’s representative as needed.

Perform additional assignments as assigned.

This position will require 40 – 45+ hours per week. This is a salaried, exempt position and is eligible for EMI’s full company benefit program. Travel, when required is generally limited to the Columbus Metro region. EMI is an EOE firm.
