    2018 Ohio Chapter ASLA Annual Meeting + EXPO

    Join the Ohio Chapter of ASLA on Friday, April 20th at COSI for one of the biggest Chapter gatherings of the year.

    Speaker | Thea Walsh, AICP, Director of Transportation Systems & Funding at MORPC

    Thea's Bio: Thea Walsh, AICP is the Transportation Systems and Funding Director Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission. MORPC is a voluntary association of Central Ohio governments and regional organizations that envisions and embraces innovative directions in transportation, energy, housing, land use, the environment and economic prosperity. 

    Thea Walsh is a 16 years of public servant focused on transportation, economic development and community planning. She has worked at county, regional and state levels of government. Thea has a BA in Public Administration and Urban and Regional Planning from Miami University and a Masters of Public Administration from Wright State University. In 2017, Thea was selected by Columbus Business First as one of the Forty Under 40 Honorees for being a “mover and shaker” in the Central Ohio community for her role in Smart Columbus, the Hyperloop Midwest Connect Proposal and a Downtown Employee Bus “C-Pass” Program.

    Speakers | Kona Gray, FASLA, PLA, Principal at EDSA

    Kona's Bio: As a Principal with over 25 years of experience, Kona Gray has been involved in many planning, landscape architectural and urban design projects, ranging from large-scale master planning to detail site design with emphasis on community planning, hospitality, urban waterfronts, parks, healthcare, and campus planning since he joined EDSA in 1997.

    Blending sensitivity and context with a passion for creative design solutions is paramount to his approach. Kona has a keen ability to translate a client's vision to create places with purpose, priorities and physical presence. He consistently takes into consideration such factors as site heritage, history, community interface, implementation strategies and each properties unique cultural, physical and environmental characteristics.

    He has been instrumental in re-introducing EDSA to the higher education and healthcare market with campus master plans and teaching hospitals in the US, Dubai and Qatar. His international experience has also involved the design for large scale, mixed-use, resort communities in Marsa Alam and Sahl Hasheesh, Red Sea, Egypt, Uptown Cairo, Egypt as well as Valvert, Rabat, Morocco. The latest effort in the region is a 5,000 acre Central Park in Cairo, Egypt. Within the Caribbean his project experience has included the Fairmount Southampton Princess and Ariel Sands in Bermuda; Ritz Carlton San Juan, W Retreat and Spa, Palmas Del Mar and Cayo Largo in Puerto Rico; and Grand Courland Estates in Tobago.

    Currently, Kona is leading a team of designer and landscape architects on projects in Florida, Georgia, Virginia, Puerto Rico, The Bahamas, China, Dubai (UAE), Egypt, India, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and St. Lucia.
