    The Ohio Chapter of ASLA is proud to present the sixth annual 2017 OCASLA Fall Educational + GALA in Columbus, Ohio. This event celebrates great landscape architecture and community planning achievements in Ohio's extraordinary cities. Participants who attend the Fall Educational will receive 4 LACES HSW CEU's.



    (**Participants may choose to attend both the Fall Educational and the GALA, or only one of the events. For example, a registrant can choose to attend the GALA only...just be sure to register for each ticket individually**)

    Please note: Registration is not accepted at the door for either event.

    Please Note: Tour groups will be assigned beforehand and will be reflected on your nametag when you check-in on the day of the event. Wear comfortable, closed toe walking shoes because we will be touring construction sites. The farthest tour site is about a 20 minute walk from Via Vecchia Winery. Hard hats and safety glasses will be provided.



    Keynote Address Speaker: Jordan Davis, Director, Smart Cities, Columbus Partnership

    Jordan Davis is the Director of Smart Cities at the Columbus Partnership.  Instrumental in the City of Columbus’ winning U.S. Department of Transportation’s Smart Cities Challenge Grant, Jordan serves on the leadership team spearheading the strategy and collaboration for the joint venture of Smart Columbus.  During her time at the Partnership she has led the member and community affairs portfolio, curating educational leadership programs for the Region’s top business leaders. Additionally, she helped to reinvent the town-gown relationship with The Ohio State University, incepting Columbus’ Student Engagement Strategy, a first of its kind initiative focused on retaining students post graduation.

    Scioto Greenways Tour: Tim Schmalenberger, FASLA, Principal, MKSK - Andrew Overbeck, AICP, Principal, MKSK and Matt Kellogg, ASLA, Landscape Architect, MKSK

    As co-founder of MKSK, Tim fosters a commitment to serving clients’ needs with sensitive and practical design solutions. His personal attention to detail, combined with a diverse professional background and extensive knowledge of the construction process, insures quality implementation and innovative design. He has more than 36 years professional experience in landscape architecture and design. Tim has a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture and is a CLARB Certified Landscape Architect. Tim serves on the State of Ohio Board of Landscape Architects.


    Andrew takes a collaborative approach to developing effective plans that address complex urban issues and identify catalytic projects. Andrew has completed transformational municipal planning, long-range planning, urban design, streetscape, alternative transportation, urban parks, and campus master plan projects.  He has worked in cities throughout the region on downtown plans and public realm improvements with a focus on urban revitalization, sustainability, and connectivity. He holds a Masters of City and Regional Planning from Ohio State University and a B.A in Politics from Earlham College. Andrew is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and is a frequent speaker at regional and national conferences.


    Matt uses the specific qualities of the context of place to develop site sensitive responses that heighten the awareness of the landscape, people and surrounding community. Matt’s professional experience extends to a wide range of award winning projects since he joined MKSK in 2011. His projects have often focused on parks, urban design and civic infrastructure. He is engaged in multiple phases of a project from initial concept planning and schematic design through construction detailing. Matt was also a part of the design team for the Scioto Greenways project in downtown Columbus, Ohio.
